Shane has been focused on data and the digitization of places, people or things since 1995. He is passionate about big, disruptive ideas that shift power to individuals and agrees that the rules of the web and mobile world can often be confused with 15th century feudalism.

When not leading rebellions of data serfs at Personal, Shane is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a board member of the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation and the Institute for Education, and co-director of the Media & Technology Roundtable. Shane caught the bug for startups after helping launch the International Crisis Group at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
